One-goal striker tells why he snubbed Irons

|

RaulWest Ham’s summer striker taeget Raul Jiminez has revealed why he turned down the Irons for Benfica.

The Mexico international is currently on loan with the Portuguese champions from La Liga side Atletico Madrid after snubbing us at the 11th hour when we thought we had bagged the player.

Speaking to A Bola Jimenez he said he thought about the offer from West Ham for several days during the last transfer window and that as Benfica are the best team in Portugal thought the club would help him to improve as a footballer.

He said: “There was also an offer from West Ham and for several days I had to think about the two options and in the end chose Benfica because I felt it was the club that could give me what I needed.

It’s the best club in Portugal and they can help me a lot to continue to improve and grow as a footballer.”

Given that he has currently managed one goal in seven outings for the Portuguese outfit we get his point! Looks as though we swerved a bullet anyway!
