Paqueta return may not save Moyes

Paqueta return is Moyes last roll of the dice

Much has been written about the return of Lucas Paqueta, but almost everything I’ve read makes one common assumption: most believe the return of our Brazilian playmaker will get the team scoring and winning again. But what if he doesn’t?

There is a huge amount of pressure on Paqueta, who has become a vital cog in West Ham’s attack this season. So much so that it has become a case of ‘No Paqueta, no victory’. It’s quite astounding how the form of players like Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus has evaporated alongside the absence of The Hammers’ record signing.

So the assumption is that Paqueta will return and West Ham will immediately start winning again. While he is good, it is no guarantee that if he were to return against Brentford on Monday, we win.

Moyes may not survive Lucas Paqueta's return

Moyes may not survive Paqueta return

David Moyes’ tactics appear to have become incredibly reliant on the No. 10 to work, but West Ham are perfectly capable of losing to Brentford or Everton with or without our talisman. This led me to thinking… what happens to Moyes if Paqueta returns and the Irons lose? I have certainly pinned my hopes on a rescue act prompted by the Brazilian’s return, and I bet the board are thinking the same way.

If it doesn’t work, then Moyes is in serious trouble because Paqueta is the last remaining ace up his sleeve.
