Pelle starts to show the Iron fist within velvet glove

|

Arnie’s attitude is the one they all need to follow – 100 per cent and nothing less!

Manuel Pellegrini has declared that this is the moment for back to back wins having sorted out that appalling start.

The manager – talking on www.whufc.com said: “This year we had a lot of different reasons why we didn’t have back-to-back wins but this is the moment to do it.

“Now is the moment to try to recover from that bad start. We now have this part of the season to put that right. It’s a matter of trust.

“The start was so bad that if you want to have a successful season you have to have a winning mentality and an ambitious target. I try to tell the players this every day.”

Huddersfield are also seeking consecutive victories after gaining their first win of the season against Fulham last week.

And Pelle said: “It’s the same [playing them after as win as after a defeat]. They will have had time to recover and they will play with a lot of trust after this first win of the season.

“They are a team that plays in the same way. It doesn’t matter who they play. If you go ten or eleven games without a win it is not easy to continue believing in what you are doing but this is a strong team that fights every ball as the last one.”

Claret and Hugh’s view

We are detecting a new note in the manager’s remarks. After the early season explanations – some would have called them excuses – there’s a demanding ‘now is the time – don’t fail’ approach being introduced…and that is good.  At the back Issa Diop has pointed out that the time for clean sheets is here and that he wasn’t entirely happy last weekend despite the victory. That’s exactly as it should be. Once you become satisfied in any area of life it’s time to ‘top’ yourself. There can always be more! Arnie has shown the way – nobody’s performances could have been more consistent, Diangana has started brilliantly and we want the same level from Felipe Anderson as we saw at Burnley. As we wrote elsewhere it’s a big game and nothing but a win will be acceptable in all honesty. There are four players who have been playing to the peak of their powers, the above mentioned, Declan Rice and Robert Snodgrass. The rest need to do the same and play to their full limits leaving nothing on the pitch at the end of 90 minutes.
