Manuel Pellegrini reckons there are two central reason for the Irons slow start to the season – one practical and the other psychological.
The arrival of so many new players whom the manager has to fit into his chosen style of play is one thing but he believes too there still may be a hangover from last season affecting the team.
There are still a number of players involved from last term and the atmosphere may also be affecting some of the new players presumably.
And the manager said: “We knew before that we need time when you have so many new players, a new manager and style of play.
“But, most of all, we need to forget about last season. We need to recover the trust in each player and what they can do, we need to recover the trust as a club and that is what me must do this week.”
“That is one of the reasons why in the second half we changed so much trying to keep it 1-0. What they need is to try to work the 90 minutes in the way they did [the first] 45 .”
I agree with johnham MP did not buy a good midfielder, in fact we need two a defensive & a creative midfielder to give the ball to the forwards preferably players with pace but no we buy 2 wingers absolutely ridiculous that MP did not get his priority right & sort the midfield first before buying luxury wingers. Unless he sorts something from the squad we will be in the bottom four come Christmas & 1.good players might not fancy a relegation fight & 2. the board may not have the cash he will want.
Is this not what Moyes said? now it is being churned out once again! you can recruit so many players and expect them to work together for quite a long time, making one change and putting the blame that way could really come back to haunt the club, what happens if we do no better at the weekend?
The Bournemouth loss was nothing to do with Wilshere and noble. Their first goal was because Balbuena and then Zabaleta both failed miserably to make a tackle on Wilson. The second goal was defenders failing to defend a set piece header in a crowded box.
He is absolutely right about the fans need to forget about last season and get fully behind the team. Without trust in the team and what pellegrini is trying to do the whole thing will fall apart. Once the negative mood hoover types start having a go at the players and the manager it’s very difficult to recover.
Drop Noble and Wilshere and introduce pace to midfield and play a natural attacking 10. All your problems will disappear, stop making excuses – we all accept players take time to settle but if that was the only reason we would be ok but if he thinks it is and does not realise we have serious problems in midfield then imo he is not the manager I believed him to be. If he starts with 3 in midfield against Arsenal with ni number 10 he is basically setting us up for another defeat. Arsenal away is a game to be positive and play two powerful frontmen in Arne and Antonio. It’s a no brainer in my opinion. I would totally accept changing to a back 3 to make this happen. We have a manager with a serious reputation who says he wants to play attacking football – how can you play attacking football if you play 3 defensive midfielders – btw Wilshere is not a 10 and if Pelle continues to play him as a 10 or a player with a license to get forward from a midfield 3, we are going to continue to lose.
