Pep admits his City were “a little lucky”

Honest Pep Guardiola admitted that his Manchester City team were a little lucky to put four past the Irons today (Sat).

That is to be applauded because there is no question the League leaders were vastly superior to us over the game and with more luck of our own it could – if not have been a whole lot different – certainly closer.

What the game did demonstrate was that the same old failing are letting us down over and over again.

The left sided defensive position has been very well discussed but what was also apparent for me is that whilst Mark Arnautovic is a highly mobile, aggressive and tough front man he is not what most would consider a “natural” striker.

The same comment can be applied to Michail Antonio who gave a largely improved performance today until he got the whites of the goalposts in his eyes.

And that brings us to the much maligned Andy Carroll who is as natural in front of goal as it gets and so long as he can remain fit, a player I think will make a whole lot of difference over the next few weeks.

Guardiola’s comments on his team’s performance are interesting and had AC been a few weeks down the line one is left wondering how differently things might have turned out.

The Man City boss said in the post match presser: ” We give a lot of credit for victory, but it was not the best performance and we were a little lucky.

“We arrived a few times and scored, whereas West Ham did the same many times and didn’t score – but I am sure we will be back soon to where we normally are.

“The most important thing is that after what we achieved last season, we are still consistent and humble.

“Our passing wasn’t great, but in terms of how we run without the ball it was fantastic.”
