Police ready for low risk/medium game

|

Met Police officer Andy Sheldon assigned to West Ham football club says Thursday’s Europa League game against Genk at the London Stadium is a low to medium risk game.

Only five hundred tickets have been sold to Belgium supporters, less than half of the 1,200 bought by Austrian Ultra fans.

Genk are bringing their safety stewards and supporter liaison staff but the authorities are hoping there will be no repeat of the troubles seen at the London Stadium when Rapid Vienna ran riot in the stadium.

On that occasion, Austrian supporter liaison officers were ejected from the stadium and there was three arrests of Rapid Vienna fans.

Sheldon answering questions on social media says the London Stadium staff, West Ham United and the police will work together on any issues that arise on the time.  UEFA are yet to charge West Ham or Rapid Vienna after previous troubles so all eyes will be on both sets of fans.
