One thing above all else is certain this summer: Jean-Clair Todibo’s days as a West Ham player under Nuno are ended.
By the players’ own declaration that he will never play for Nuno again after having being hooked within the first half an hour against Newcastle united last season, West Ham’s hot-headed centre back has effectively signed his own letter of resignation.
Falling out with three successive Hammers managers is hardly a commendation to add to Todibo’s football CV but that hasn’t deterred likely suitors from planning to entice him away. According to thehardtackle.com The Hammers have a replacement in mind: Marseille’s former Burnley defender who left the Clarets on a ‘free’ last season but who has struggled for game time in the French Ligue 1.
“West Ham United in transfer tussle to sign CJ Egan-Riley..
According to a report by French outlet Media Foot, CJ Egan-Riley is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the ongoing transfer window, and they have their sights on the 23-year-old Marseille defender.”

Egan Riley from his Burnley days
“However, the East London outfit will not be alone in the battle for the Englishman’s signature, as per Media Foot, Brighton & Hove Albion are also pursuing him. The report has also added that Egan-Riley is increasingly likely to return to England ahead of the 2026/27 season.”
Likely Marseille, who picked him up on a ‘free’ in 2025 – will be amenable to banking a profit from his sale, making him affordable and attainable at Championship – level transfer fees. Refreshing compared to the ‘Adam Webster’ links that were circulating last week, Egan Riley would be exactly the sort of profile Hammers fans would hope to see land at London Stadium this summer.
Allegedly Todibo was only joining us as a stepping stone to arriving at Manchester United.
He knows his worth. He knows where he wants to go. Let him go. Pay us back what he owes and everyone can move on.
We need all of our players singing from the same hymn sheet as we ensure promotion.

Since Bowen has already signed for the Hammers I cannot uderstand all this rubish

I think Todibo could’ve been the real deal, but just let down by non-footballing characteristics.
A classic case of a really good footballer let down by an appalling attitude to any management, and a sense of self-worth and entitlement he never justified.
Yes. Disappointing to think what could have been, but you have to ask if the performances are worth the disruption. And the answer is usually no.
