With the football season now entering its fourth calendar month, the pressure on managers – be they Championship or Premier League – is ramping up as supporters and anxious owners come to terms with their own teams’ shortcomings.
Forget poor budgets, player injuries or recruitment failures by egotistical sporting directors – all of these issues are easily swept under the carpet with the ‘instant fix’ of a manager sacking.
West Ham within the Championship have one of best records in their division – with six wins, three losses and four draws putting them eighth in the second tier, but the expectation built by keeping large numbers of last years’ squad in place -plus retaining their very expensive Manager – means there’s little margin for error this season.
As Nuno is finding out.
Up in the Premier League, no less than four managers face an anxious international break, according to talkSPORT, who consider Crystal Palace’s Pierre Sage, Manchester United’s Michael Carrick, Sunderland’s Regis Le Bris and Nottingham Forest’s Oliver Glasner all to be on the ‘extreme risk’ shortlist, suggesting :
“A Premier League managerial bloodbath could potentially be on its way in the upcoming November international break.”
Which, call me selfish, could suit West Ham very nicely thank you.

Michael Carrick – could follow David Moyes’ redemption route from Old Trafford to London Stadium
Compared with the dubious credentials of Thomas Frank, Rob Edwards or Sean Dyche, all of whom are named by bet365 as ‘frontrunners’ should Kretinsky and his board decide to pull the trigger, few West Ham fans would take issue with Michael Carrick returning if Nuno’s floundering continues to fail to impress as the winter wears on.
Carrick, suitably refreshed a couple of months after a no doubt painful dismissal by the Red Devils, could be just what the doctor ordered both for West Ham and for the manager to help hrebuild his bruised ego.
Remember David Moyes’ redemption and rebuild of his own reputation at West Ham after being numbed at Old Trafford? Yes indeed: Let’s hope Carrick does too.
I’ll quietly be cheering on the poorly informed Man U board during the up and coming break to ‘do the right thing’ (for us) and dismiss one of the best young managerial talents around at the moment.
He’ll be very welcome back at E20 just in time for Christmas.
Perhaps we should have called for Frank Lampard when we had the chance.
One of our own and born and bred to be a West Ham legend.
Competence, credentials and continuity all rolled into one.
In the meantime, we need Nuno to sort out the backroom staff. Leaderless, rudderless, no structure, no cohesion, no motivation and clueless at the moment. We need to change all of this and pretty darn quickly, too.
What has Carrick ever achieved? He failed to get Middlesbrough promoted on numerous occasions
Wii oh the exception of Glasner everyone you mention are downgrades on Frank, Dyche and even Edwards.
One hopes West again already have someone lined up otherwise a Sully special like Steve Cooper could be incoming
Only after unemployed managers? …again
Pray the Greek nutcase at Forest sacks Glasner but would he drop down to the Championship? Hes the one worth getting and then it’s Parker who as stated gets teams up but not to stay up ☹️
Carrick would have been on my shortlist but seeing how he struggled to get Utd going and their lack of pressing am not sure about that.
I saw Kieran McKenna mentioned and he could be worth a shout. Frank is too nice and judging by how Brentford play under Andrews it’s fairly likely their performance under Frank was in large part related to Andrews.
The guy from Karlsruhe is also an interesting punt.
Michael I cannot cut in the Premiership Carrick, you are kidding. Go up and then down no thanks. Bellamy unproven in the league. No, I sound boring saying so, only one holds up. Only one gets them up and keeps them up. Only one changes teams and makes them competitive and even gets them to Europe with a shoe string budget. Once considered for the England job, Sean Dyche.
Old school. Had his day imn afraid
Sorry but Carrick doesn’t convince me as the answer.
I’d take Carrick or Bellamy right now over Nuno’s phaffing!!
McKenna al day!!
Proved he can produce a winning team, good football and with backing could make us a force in the Premiership!!
There’s also McKenna, Bellamy, Howe seems like choice is no end.
Could also give Nuno chance to get back in premier league?
Don’t only need wins at Cardiff and Blackburn but need better performances.
Still got Middlesbrough, Birmingham and Southampton before January.
Sorry but waiting to Christmas to get rid of Nuno isn’t good enough.
We need a manager that motivates and encourages players to want to play rather than deliberately antagonising them (something Nuno seems to goes out of his way to do).
We also need a manager who plays to his players strengths and doesn’t play them out of position. So trying to play a game that relies on pace driven counter attacks when your three principle strikers Taty, Pablo and Piroe have all the pace of a crippled snail doesn’t seem vaguely credible.
Then defending corners with the whole team in the penalty box displays a tactical understanding that even a two year old recognises as complete folly, it overcrowds the penalty box, gives little hope to teh goalkeeper as there are two many bodies, no one is sure who they are marking, players get in each other’s way and there is no release from the pressure as no-one is available to pick up or challenge for clearances. To do this in any game is poor to have done it against 9 man Lincoln was frankly criminal.
Nuno needs to go now otherwise we waon’t even make the play offs. We are averaging 1.69 pts per game. Thats 77.74 points at the end of the season at this rate. A play-off place at best, This team should needs to target 100 points for guaranteed promotion. thats 2.36 pts per game from now on. Nuno is never going to get that.
It’s written in the stars Gonzo Let’s hope it happens a match made in heaven MICHAEL CARRICK TO W HAM PLEASE The timing would be just right Dont miss this oppertunity our Czec mate
