Whilst the ‘boos’ rang out and fans voiced their displeasure all around London Stadium over the manner of another Hammers’ tepid home performance last weekend as Nuno’s team came up short against Southampton, few fans could realistically have felt much appetite for yet another managerial change in the West Ham dugout.

But, having taken West Ham down to the second division, there’s little ‘credit’ in the bank for Nuno – so as soon as the results start to dry up there are those almost inevitably calling for his head.

Few players who have been at the club for the last three troubled years would relish the thought of yet another new system and another new coaching regime, though, after coping with the upheaval of the departures of David Moyes, Julen Lopetegui, Graham Potter – and next Nuno – if he’s fired.

However a report this morning claims that West Ham are indeed putting feelers out with contact made over a successor, according to the normally pretty reliable Football Insider:

“Sources: West Ham make preliminary move for Rob Edwards as he rejects Burnley approach“

Rob Edwards- Former Wolves Manager

Edwards was hired for a promotion push at Molineux but ditched before the season started : Now there are claims he’s being lined up for Nuno’s job at West Ham

“Football Insider can reveal, however, that West Ham United have put out feelers to Edwards, although it is unknown if this is why he directly turned down the Clarets.”

“This comes as Nuno Espirito Santo faces growing pressure at the London Stadium, with his side falling to third in the Championship table.”

Which does feel like something of a bombshell if it is true. (The important word here being ‘if’!).

Few would doubt the wisdom of approaching Edwards although the path to employing him would be clouded by Nuno’s enormous compensation package if he were fired and the fact that Edwards is hot property right now:

“West Ham will need to battle several clubs for Edwards if they want him for the remainder of the 2026-27 campaign, with promotion a top priority.

Football Insider revealed last month that he had emerged as a contender to replace Pierre Sage at Crystal Palace, and even Chris Davies at Birmingham City.”

And West Ham fans would have to ask themselves a serious question over the wisdom of sacking a manager whilst the club is in third place in the league. Surely not. But if results slide and the Hammers’ position looks dicey in a couple of months – who could say.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Curse you Shaun Wright-Phillips.
I still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows another six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser.
Can tell I'm getting old knowing I watched both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old.
Magic.

    Rob Edwards no thanks

People seem to be overlooking the fact that, although we’ve not won at home since Wrexham (not great I know), before Saturday we had taken seven points from the previous nine. I think feelers for a new manager is, to use a cliche, over egging the pudding right now.

    No thanks.

Craig Bellamy would be great. Don’t even know if he’d do a good managing job, would just be great to have back at the club being a lunatic.

just about sums up the level and mindset of these owners
    building a club towards mediocrity.

Nuno has a couple of years left on his contract, but promotion this season will be viewed as an imperative by the board from a financial perspective so it can be of no surprise that they would size someone up in the event that we slipped out of contention.
