Hammers battle Madrid for defender
According to Italian media reports, West Ham United are taking the lead over Real Madrid in the pursuit of AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw.
The reports are also reporting that we are close to making an offer for the player. This news contradicts the information shared by Claret & Hugh, who previously disclosed the club’s stance on their January transfer budget. Thiaw, a 22-year-old Milan acquisition from Schalke last summer for £7.5 million, is well-known to West Ham’s director of football, Tim Steidten.
Thiaw was in excellent form towards the end of last season, and has maintained his impressive standards this season. The defender has appeared in seven out of eight Serie A matches for AC Milan. He has also made notable contributions in matches against Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
The versatile Thiaw is capable of playing as a centre-back, right-back, or defensive midfielder While it is unlikely that West Ham will meet his €20 million valuation with an offer during January. Sky Italia has reported Real Madrid’s interest in Thiaw, but also highlighted that West Ham is currently leading the race for the player.
