Manchester United are tonight reported to be holding an interest in Marko Arnautovic but have no intention of bidding for him this winter.
The Telegraph is saying the club has expressed an interest in the Hammers front man but that at this stage they will take it no further than that.
Instead, says the Telegraph, says they will be monitoring him until the end of then season but even at that stage there is no certainty that they will make an offer.
The story continues: ‘Given Arnautovic’s age – 29 – United’s interest in him may depend on whether Jose Mournho remains as manager beyond this campaign.
Arnautotvic has long been linked with United who may be loathe to pay a significant transfer fee for a player of his age.’
West Ham – the story claims – are aware of the interest and that intermediaries ( presumably that means agents ) are sounding out clubs.”
ClaretandHugh says: With all due respect to The Telegraph, this is one of the oddest stories we have seen in a very long time. And that West Ham are claimed to be aware of this interest in Arnie makes it even more peculiar. The big question that needs answering is how on earth can the Hammers be aware of interest whilst apparently there is no interest whatsoever in buying him at this stage and maybe never. Did somebody ring up the Davids and actually say: “Well, lads we are sort of interested if you know what I mean but on the other hand we don’t want to buy him at this stage although we MIGHT later assuming that old Jose is still around which he may or may not be. Even then we may not be interested.” The Arnautovic/Man United story gets weirder and weirder with every passing day and this story is the strangest yet. A very odd one indeed. Let’s move on.
