Manuel Pellegrini may stage a typical transfer window raid by bringing in a player he has worked with previously to solve his troublesome left back position
Thirty two old Nacho Monreal could become the temporary solution to his problem position and bring about a reunion between the pair who worked together at Malaga between 2011-2013.
Monreal is out of contract in the summer and could appreciate a short term contract which would see him rejoin his former boss under whom he played 45 games at the Spanish club.
The Gunners defender made 39 appearances for the north London outfit last season and has featured in seven Premier League games this season.
But Unai Emery is unlikely to be ready to offer him a deal at his age and that would allow Pelle to snap him up on a short term deal similar to that which he is hoping to offer another old boy Samir Nasri.
He has no problem in accommodating older players as demonstrated when he reached for Robert Pires and Ruud van Nistlerooy believing such individuals bring gravitas to the dressing room.
Pelle and his director of football Mario Husillos are playing their cards close to their chests but Monreal would certainly fit their modus operandi.
Were it to happen it could mean he has three former players Zabaleta, Nasri and Monreal on board for the second half of the season.
I hope not, Jordi Alba at 29 looks like he is on his way out of Barcelona got to be a better shout than Monreal who even when he was younger always had a defensive disaster in him.
