West Ham return to action tomorrow night with the last game’s shortcomings evidently still very fresh in Nuno’s mind.

Queens Part Rangers at home will be a very different proposition to Millwall’s hostile, feisty approach which cost the Hammers a two goal lead and demanded a huge effort to get anything out of the encounter after ceding the first half to their South London opponents.

Clearly Nuno has a very different plan and has made very different demands of his Hammers starting XI, a plan which does not allow for West Ham gifting their opponents a two goal head start.

The unambitious, lacklustre timidity which was on display in the first half at The Den has to go.

That’s the message from within West Ham’s training camp as the manager spoke to the press ahead of the QPR visit.

As per The NY Times:

“The main lesson that we have taken from the game against Millwall is we have to start the games much better. We are reacting and we want to be the ones that cause.

We want to be the first team to score.

There were many things from that game that we didn’t do well.”

More Wrexham than Millwall then. Whether West Ham’s squad will hit the ground running remains to be seen.

In any case, the squad was sorely in need of the three week break, as Nuno confirmed:

It was a very hectic schedule, we demanded and asked so many things out of the squad and they were exhausted by the end of it. So the break came in a good moment and has allowed us to recover mentally and physically.

At least the ‘fatigue’ excuse has been well and truly put to bed for the next run of games, and there should be less culture shock from a side that now knows exactly what is required of it as opposition teams ‘up’ their games on arriving at the biggest night of their careers.

62,000 will be in attendance again tomorrow and you can bet QPR will be ready to do their best to knock the Hammers off their second-place pedestal.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
