Sampdoria can’t afford Ogbonna

Oggy ...on his way back!

Oggy …on his way back!

Sampdoria have reportedly decided against a move to bid for West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna deciding they cannot match his £45,000 per week basic wage he earns at the London Stadium.

The 29-year-old joined the Hammers from Juventus in 2015 for £7.5m and quickly became a key figure.  However, he missed a considerable part of last season with a knee injury, but played the full 90 minutes in the final-day victory at Burnley.

Not a regular at Juventus, Ogbonna was still rated highly and it is unclear if the Hammers would be willing to sell him if a decent offer came in this summer. According to reports in Italy, Sampdoria have now dropped interest in the West Ham defender.

The 29-year-old has made 65 appearances for West Ham over the last two seasons and has a contract until 2019 with the club.

  1. Good!

He carried an injury for much of last season, playing because he was asked to.

We will see him perform at a higher level next season.
