West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing former Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez to bolster their backline this summer. While the Colombian international offers experience, questions linger about whether he’s the right fit for the Hammers.

With Nayef Aguerd potentially departing the club, West Ham needs a new central defender. However, the situation is clouded by the uncertain future of manager David Moyes. If Moyes leaves, director of football Tim Steidten might be steering the ship during the transfer window.

The 27-year-old Sanchez has emerged as a target, with West Ham reportedly willing to offer £13 million to secure his services from Galatasaray. The Turkish club, however, is holding out for a higher fee closer to £17 million.

While Sanchez brings experience, his past struggles at Tottenham raise concerns. His tendency towards rash decisions and weaknesses in positional awareness make his suitability for the Premier League debatable.

The hefty price tag adds another layer of risk. At the proposed fee, some believe West Ham could find a more reliable option.  I would have a thought that a maximum of £5-6 million would be about right, otherwise Sanchez is an overpriced gamble.

West Ham’s pursuit of Sanchez highlights their need for defensive reinforcements. However, the question remains: is Sanchez the answer? His past performance and the asking price make this a potentially risky move. West Ham might be better served exploring other options to solidify their backline for the upcoming season.

We need at least four central defenders if Aguerd leaves

Tommy Soucek could be moved to CD. He would head a bowling ball if required and his knees are not made of crockery, plus he’s half the age of our current Dads Army defenders. Lets face it, dear old Tom is not the best box-to-box midfielder in the world either but maybe Loppy could turn him into the new Dawson
