It’s undoubtedly becoming a West Ham United exodus, quite possibly comparable with the relegation of 2003. The total number of players quitting the club keeps on rising, despite all of the assurances to the contrary made back in June when things looked very different.
Some see that as a good thing, breaking up a failed Premier League squad, whilst the main concern looking ahead is for replacements to be brought in ahead of the transfer deadline.
Following on from the earlier news that Jean-Clair Todibo has departed the club on loan, a new report suggests that another, younger, more promising Hammer is set to depart before the end of the window. Which still strikes me as a bit of a missed opportunity for the club.
Potts & Magassa modelled the new West Ham shirt and neither will be playing for the club this season

Foot Mercato understands that both Bologna and Sevilla have submitted bids. Both are paid loan deals that include obligatory purchase options. West Ham are inclined to accept these bids. There had also been interest from Germany in the form of Red Bull Leipzig, whilst Lille OSC could have offered Magassa a return France.”
Just half a season ago we felt we’d found the midfield of the future: Now the trio of Potts, Fernandes and Magassa lives on only in the memory as West Ham’s Championship squad takes on a new identity.
A quick summary shows that with Magassa, the total of players to exit West Ham since the end of last season stands at Wilson, Fabianski, Disasi, Traore, Fernandes, Summerville, Potts, Fullkrug, Marshall, Earthy, Diouf, Ward-Prowse, Todibo, Magassa..in addition to youngsters Michael Forbes, Junior Robinson, Tyron Akpata, Daniel Rigge, David Chigwada and Tom Wooster.
Did I forget anyone? Easier to list the players who are staying.
Shocking. And since there’s still Edson Alvarez and Maxwel Cornet waiting in the wings, potentially sixteen first team players and six youngsters gone since May.
The concern should not be the sales, but what will comprise the squad this season. Good money was received for the very few players from last year’s faling squad who were highly sought after. None of the youngsrers relinquished had trained on to secure a regular first team place, nor looked like doing so. We are well rid of blow hot & cold bad attitude misfits like Todibo. You’re not going to get many top class players come to a just relegated Championship club with a boardroom battle going on & which does look like getting promoted this season. We’ll see what further last minute buys or loans happen in the next couple of days. Most importantly can the coaching team get the best out of the squad, which certainly isn’t happening at the moment.
Only gonna miss Potts
The statement on no forced sales was made on the belief Kretinsky could and would get Gold’s shares and thus feel able to invest in the club. He didn’t get them, he didn’t invest hence we need to sell.
We’ve also moaned about Sully publicly stating in the past about how we have to sell and thus advertising we will probably sell at a discount. Club say they don’t need to sell and get great prices for Summerville, Fernandes, Diouf and even Potts.
Many of the players wanted to leave (3 of the above 4 and Disasi, Tobido and Fulkrug. Of those remaining, how many are we confident would make it in the Prem.
Reality is we got relegated last season. We deserved to get relegated because we were crap.
We need to clean the decks so we can rebuild properly. We also need to get promoted, so there are players I wish we were keeping, particularly Diouf in respect of assists but on the basis he hasn’t exactly been anywhere near the pitch I suspect he didn’t want to stay.
With the squad we have and hopefully still modestly improve, I’m hopefuls we will get promoted and Nuno needs to prove his worth by the end of next month.
If not……Eddie Howe please if he is willing to come to the EFL.

Junior a Robinson is still at the club he has not left
What is the situation with Junior Robinson? You have him as a departure but he is still on the club website as an U21 player (when everything else seems up to date) and he captained the side versus Southampton 21st August.
Personally not too concerned over the older players so long as the deal is a good one. I am however concerned over the young players leaving and what impact it will have on the club later on.

Worth remembering that all of these departures are not paid for by cash on delivery. Especially as we wonder how all this income windfall is not being used to buy replacements.

I only count six regular starters that have departed. The remainder were squad players and academy talent.
None of the departures are in the same class as those TB literally gave away for a pittance back in the day!
That means 6 new signings are needed to an already lightweight squad.
