The list of candidates to replace Graham Potter at West Ham has descended into guesswork for those of us wondering what on earth is going on at the club.

After all, if David Sullivan and Karren Brady have decided that Nuno Espirito Santo is the best man for the job, why not appoint him now? Why the Hammers board seem content to sacrifice six valuable Premier League points over the next two games is anyone’s guess.

With more than one candidate under consideration, it’s clear that club bosses are no closer to a final decision. We know there are three main contenders, and all boast Premier League experience – a box that appears to be essential for the current ownership.

Only yesterday, former West Ham favourite Scott Parker was linked with Potter’s role. When Claret & Hugh asked our transfer source whether there was genuine interest in the three-time Hammer of the Year, we were told: “Parker has been discussed.” That was as much detail as we could get.

Parker is a candidate to replace Potter

What it does mean, however, is that we now know the identity of two of the three candidates – Nuno and Parker – with the third name still a mystery.

As for Potter and his players, who knows what they must make of this uncertainty? To me, it seems utterly pointless to retain a lame-duck manager the club clearly have no long-term intention of keeping.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

With the exception of Moyes, has any manager since 2010 over-achieved from the fan’s perspective? How many have significantly under-achieved?

Again we go into a period of anticipated manager change hoping and expecting that it’ll signal an upturn in fortunes. Maybe.

Can you call out David Sullivan on his declared coaching requirement for previous Premier League experience. There is absolutely no evidence that this requirement does anything other than reduce the pool of contenders, that’s it. Well, not quite. It also partially removes the necessity for those making the choice, to have any relevant knowledge as to the applicants capabilities. I would love to hear Sullivan’s reasoning.

Gonzo, you used the word pointless, and that about sums it up. Why not sack Potter today, put someone in charge until the international break and then sign up a new manager if that’s the time frame you are looking at. I would say the under 21 manager with help from old Mr West ham himself would work well. At least you may get some under 21’s playing showing what they have got for the next manager.

From what i saw last night and how Southampton pressed Liverpool (i know they did not have their full first squad out) the whole game and only lost due to silly errors I think Will Still could be a contender and he is an ardent West Ham supporter

Our behaviour as a club is appalling, say whatever you like about Potters failings, nobody deserves to be hung out to dry like this. The decent thing to do would have been to call him in on Monday morning, agree it hasn’t worked out and let him go. The players will not do anything differently whilst the situation carries on and because we have no real leaders or characters on the pitch, I fear we are in for two more heavy defeats leading into the next (pointless) International break.

Yes, if as you say, minds are made up and Potter is to leave, then as someone else suggested ask Robson & Noble to take care of 1st team duties. Better all round for everybody and stop the manager going through the wringer every day for far too long.
Obviously you’d need some backroom staff too though, since you presume the whole team would leave.

Hope Macaulay stays. They said he is “Potter’s man” – No idea what that means. The club do not want him, or he will choose to leave if Potter goes? He might have a great opportunity at WHU in the overall selection process. He is a valuable man to have at a club I would have thought.

Funny how potters been given 2 more away matches then the next home fixture will be boycotted west ham won’t want that on live sky sports!!! This would put a stop to the boycott by appointing Potters succeedor for the Brentford game all makes sence!!! 🤦‍♂️⚒️😩

this is all very intresting.my cv is in the post.west ham have gone its finished as we knew it.
the idea you keep potter on for another two games so as not to let a new manager start off with two bad defeats and believe me thats what lies ahead.its very poor.think of the fans travelling up to liverpool next week what must they feel all the expense all the cost its already been lost we dont care the directors are saying.we dont care about the game and two fingers to you.the only reason i didnt travel down from liverpool to london on saturday for the march was id have to ring the bank for a loan so expensive and i would had to book in the past summer.mark my words how they are treating potter sums it all up.instead of removeing him they want to humiliate him.shameful.just go through the list of managers sullivan has appointed since he took over.the players brought in.if he didnt own west ham he would be sacked no problem.i dont know how he has made his money.because the notion of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.the only way out of this strange dream is removal of the board.no going to matches no buying merchandise.let the organisers of the marches send out an s o s to investors inviting them to take us over.get on the telly and radio.contact celebrity fans who have influence to spread the word.if we dont there will be a break away like wimbledom and manchester united.think about it we have no home.no roots they are not intrested in our history or west hams culture.if they wont budge its horrible but its time to start again.and before people suggest i take the the red pill with a blue or up my medication what is the alternative/.if we get relegated it wont be easy to get back up.we need to be in the spotlight now today and everyday.make np mistake the soul of the club is in the balance.this isnt just a rant its a prediction.who am i a born and bred scouser who fell in love with the hammers 1n 1972 and not just an armchair fan the boleyn w2as my spiritual home i have framed photos on my back bedroom wall along with photographs of me and trevor brookiing and geoff hurst.i have seen the play bought the t shirt.i used to go a liverpool comprehensive school proudly wearing my west ham scarf.im as much west ham as someone born in bow.
its in my bones.beware the saying you dont know what you will miss until its gone.

Same old, same old for Sullivan et al at West Ham. Useless as always. I guess they think that playing the field off the field is something they’re good at! Maybe it’s all in the game for our business savvy chairman to try and bargain Nuno’s wage demands down.
