From the last couple of games – as West Ham have struggled to find a route to scoring goals, with their existing threat failing to fire – it has looked as though reinforcements were needed for the arduous Championship campaign on which the Hammers are about to embark.
Jarrod Bowen can’t do it all on his own this season
Well known are our opinions on the current squad’s ability to match Jarrod Bowen: Clearly West Ham’s captain cannot do it all on his own and the disposal of young talent Callum Marshall, along side the summer departure of Callum Wilson means the Irons are woefully short of firepower in the front line and underprepared for a 46 game campaign which kicks off on 18th August.
However, reinforcements may be on the way.
Claret and Hugh’s source, close to several first team players, has given us a big update on the club’s work behind the scenes to bring another front man into the side ahead of the season:
“West Ham are in talks with a proven striker from the French Ligue 1: If the club reach agreement it is a deal that’ll likely happen very quickly”
The first thought was one of relief (whoever the player turns out to be) that Nuno is realistic enough to recognise his existing resources are insufficient for a second division promotion challenge. A goalless draw against Rangers and a toothless front line against Magdeburg yesterday has shown the Irons to be slow and one dimensional.
If the club can get a signature on a contract for an old fashioned, proven goal scorer (one who is, we are told, well under thirty years old, incidentally) then there may well be a ‘plan B’ within Nuno’s reach to try and complete a squad which would actually capable of mounting a serious challenge.
For as we saw yesterday and last week in pre-season, we don’t have it. Yet.
Plan B same as Plan A….do not cross the half way line defend deep and try not to concede for once.
Where’s Fulkrug? I would have thought the Championship was made for him.
They could buy numerous proven strikers but until they sort that horrendous midfield out nothing will change!

Please help me understand why there is any possibility that West Ham would have performed any differently in the July pre-season, when they have the exact same setup as they had at the end of May when relegation was the reward? Exact same LESS many and plus none (that includes Lamadrid) means we are worse off. Who in their right mind thinks the results now would be any better? We are now forced to play players that could not buy their way into the team in May, and we have such disdain for the quality of the championship that we actually think the garbage we have is good enough. Four weeks left in the transfer window, no new signings and no time left to integrate anyone before the first competitive game, all the work of a rich guy with no previous success in sport and a coach who’s past and present is littered with failure. From a business perspective, Arsenal should be the model, NOT Newcastle.
