Spurs wait to pick up Rice on the cheap

News continues to circulate around 19-year-old Hammer Declan Rice. The Daily Mail suggested that Spurs are laying in wait prepared to pick him up on the cheap when his contract expires in 2020 possibly only paying tribunal compensation to West Ham.

The Mail says “Rice earns just £3,000 a week — a deal that runs until the summer of 2020. West Ham are prepared to increase his wages to £12,000 but the player and his advisers consider that a derisory offer, and it is something they are not even prepared to discuss.”

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror has a different take on what is on the table from West Ham by saying “Rice has been offered terms to end the stand-off which would have increased his wages from £3,000 to a basic of £15,000-per-week. That figure would rise again to £20,000-a-week when he makes 15 Premier League starts. There is also believed to be a ‘£20,000-per-Premier League start’ clause in the deal. But Rice’s camp are holding out for £30,000-per-week”

Rice is currently earning £3,000 per week plus £15,000 per Premier League appearance and £5,000 per un-used bench appearance.

The offer being quoted by the Daily Mirror in the last twenty-four hours is close the figure Claret and Hugh was told by insiders back in June, a £15,000 per week basic with £15,000 per Premier League appearance with a £7,500 bonus for being an unused substitute on the bench. One difference in the Daily Mail’s story is that West Ham believes they have a cast Iron contract with the player until the Summer of 2021 so believe time is still on their side.
