Pre-season is tough, physically, with legs and lungs struggling to adapt to the familiar training load after a month of relative indolence. More so than in many recent seasons, West Ham‘s squad will be tested by a huge workload this term with sometimes three games in eight days within the Championship’s packed schedule.
Hence the quick turnaround from Saturday’s Southend fixture to tonight’s trip up the A1(M) to take on Stevenage.

The physical load is all the greater tonight, as we understand several players are struggling with a sickness bug, according to insider ExWHUEmployee: Most notably Freddie Potts is likely to be absent, whilst the starting eleven may have an unlikely look to it depending on who else struggles to be ready to start tonight’s match.
Latest: West Ham have released the starting line up for the 7.45 kick off.
