With so many issues requiring serious consideration at West Ham right now I was a little surprised to find an event in 1942 being brought to my attention when I drifted onto the official site a little earlier.
Under the header ‘On this Day’ – a convenient label to have available when there’s nothing to report – I discovered the names of people I had no clue had ever played for the club.
There’s Sergeant Corbett and Sergeant Barrett for starters who were part of a team that played against Millwall 77 years ago when the Hammers won 7-5.
All very nice and presumably a reminder that Remembrance Day has just passed as it nestled on what is described as a News Page where you could also be regaled with possible Xmas presents and a reminder that 53 years ago West Ham won the World Cup!!!
