Striker looks realistic Hammers target

|

West Ham have been linked with a move for Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres – one of the few players mentioned as a possible summer arrival – who seems a realistic target. Here, occasional CandH blogger The Cat, gives his view of the player.

Having watched Gyokeres a fair bit last season, I think that he would be a good fit for us, not simply as an Antonio clone but a striker with ability, intelligence, pace and with a real hunger and desire.

Gyokores has great work ethic

Scamacca may have bundles of talent but I don’t believe that he has shown the desire and work ethic required of any Premier League striker no matter the club. Gyokeres has it by the bucket load and would be a great purchase in my opinion. Antonio has seemed to want out for some time and I’m not sure exactly where he would go after leaving us.

I believe his reasons for wanting to leave have a fair bit to do with his realisation that his status as the number one striker at this club, has come to an end at 33 years old and I guess that he wants to be the master of his own destiny.

I think I read recently that Antonio has been linked for a move to Wolves, thereby joining up with former club mate Craig Dawson. I also see that Diego Cost has been released after his short term helping in the front line at Wolves. Antonio would likely replace Costa there as another short term candidate, I’m sad to say. Whatever happens, Mikey has been a good servant to the Hammers. He’s a real character too!
