Sunderland have knocked back West Ham’s move for Jermain Defoe – and insisted he is not for sale claims John Cross in the Daily Mirror.
Mirror Sport say West Ham have now made official contact with the Black Cats and are willing to pay £5m for the 34-year-old striker but the approach was immediately rebuffed. This is unlikely to put off the Hammers who are likely to increase the fee to test Sunderland’s resolve.
Defoe has already scored 11 goals this season but West Ham believe the former Hammers striker is interested in a move back to London.
