With fans and pundits seemingly not convinced over West Ham‘s top two transfer targets, sometimes it is a big help to listen to those distanced from the club and player whose opinion carries huge sway.
Michael Owen, former Liverpool and England striker – turned-TV pundit, still knows a thing or two about top strikers and he has come down heavily in the ‘pro’ camp in favour of striker Troy Parrott leaving AZ Alkmaar and heading to the Hammers, despite their ‘lowly’ second division status this season.
Says Owen:
“West Ham would be a great club to play for. They’re going to probably win the league, they’re going to probably score a million goals and they’ve got a lot of great players.
A great opportunity – says Michael Owen – for Parrot to establish himself in the Championship and take the Premier League by storm next year.
“That could be an amazing move. You grow into that team and then come up into the Premier League and who knows, if you’ve done so well you could be embedded into a really good team.” (football.london.com)
Would that Owen’s prophesy proves correct: ‘Scoring a million goals’ with Taty and Pablo leading the line looks far from certain at this stage of the season… So the addition of Republic of Ireland international Parrott could be the difference between automatic promotion and play-off lottery.
Twenty five million quid well spent? Only time will tell, but if he’s good enough for Michael Owen, he’s good enough for me.
This club really has delusions of grandeur.
I like Michael Owen but he’s obviously not watched us or seen Nuno’s tactics.
With the players we have we’re not going to score loads of goals especially if Nuno’s negative tactics mean we will be a counter attacking team. He needs to take a leaf out of the U21’s and attack,the youth players all want to do that but have constantly been held back already. Nuno needs to attack teams put them to bed. None of the let them have the ball,that’s what we should be looking to achieve.
I have no faith in this negative manager.
