Transfer story sees coveted Hammer heading away in January | West Ham News

Something of a head scratcher for West Ham fans to reflect on this morning, as the team bus heads over to Wales.

West Ham United, in third place take on Championship surprise package Swansea City sitting in first place some four points ahead of Nuno’s West Ham in what is most definitely an old fashioned six pointer. Win and the Hammers can close the gap to one point but lose and a seven point gap will open up -pretty significant after just eleven games.

Amongst this morning’s articles is something of a fairy story from footballleagueworld.co.uk claiming that Championship strugglers Burnley have plans to try and prise one of West Ham’s best performing, most significant players away from the club this winter: If this one comes off then I’ll eat my claret and blue joker hat, bells and all.

“Burnley eyeing surprise West Ham, Konstantinos Mavropanos transfer raid”

Runs the headline. Like me, chances are you’ll not even bother reading to the end of the article concerned. ‘Plotting’ they may be. But with absolute zero chance of success.

West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos in action for Greece’s Nations League fixtures

Mavropanos could have his pick of several top division sides so why would he pick..Burnley ?

Dinos has been the subject of interest from sides across Europe with European football to boot: From Olympiacos to Dortmund, and even within the Premier League’s own ranks, covetous eyes have been on the current Hammer of the Year since West Ham were relegated and even more so since his superb performance in a Greece shirt during the international break.

West Ham no longer have the financial necessity to part with a single player in the coming winter window after righting the ship in the summer with the sale of almost £200m worth of players. So not on any level does this suggestion, admittedly from a reputable football league web site, make any sense whatsoever.

Turf moor? A transfer to a side who can’t even afford Mavropanos’ current deal, who are mired at the foot of the Championship and with every chance of ending up in the third tier next season? That’s about as likely as Erling Harland turning up at London Stadium next summer.

No chance. Next.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
