West Ham’s summer sort-out will continue apace with eight days until the transfer window closes. What started with Callum Wilson and Adama Traore quitting the club in June looks likely to end with Magassa and possibly Diouf (who was not even on the bench yesterday) being sold before 2nd September if reports are true.

A total of eleven departures – and counting – has been offset by half as many incomings so much remains to be done. In deciding the fate of youngsters like Freddie Potts and Callum Marshall, Nuno has sparked intense debate amongst fans, many of whom felt there was more to come from several of those now departed the side.

And course, as it had to be, two of the recent departures found the net yesterday. Callum Marshall, sold to Luton for a few hundred thousand quid, came on and equalised with a lovely shot on the turn yesterday to stick two fingers up at Nuno whilst Niclas Fullkrug succeeded where Taty Castellanos failed miserably and notched a goal from the penalty spot on debut as his new side Werder Bremen ran out 3-0 winners.

To compound Nuno’s woes, Fullkrug managed to score from the spot yesterday – unlike Taty

Uncomfortable reading for Nuno and for West Ham supporters this morning after their record Championship splurge for Arne Engels achieved nothing, and the young midfielder looked overwhelmed as all around him mediocrity ruled. As West Ham’s manager summed up after the game:

I’m disappointed. It’s not about the way we played, it’s about the situations in the box.

We didn’t defend the throw in properly [that led to Jones’ opening goal], we didn’t create enough in the offensive box.

We created a lot of situations but this is football, and we have to be more precise in the boxes.

I didn’t know exactly the number of shots [we had] but we created a lot of situations but weren’t able to take them today.”

Ironically, Fullkrug and Marshall managed to just that on a day that really couldn’t gave gone a lot worse for West Ham’s beleaguered manager, who now has to sort his wayward side out in just a couple of sessions ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to St Mary’s.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Given time we’ll come good with Nuno I’ll love to see more front foot attacking football.

I think the new players should be given time to adapt with the rest of the team then we will shine ⚒️⚒️🇬🇧

My first visit to West Ham,s new stadium yesterday. Had a great seat on the half way line in the Billy Bonds stand. Good game but West Ham were so frustrating in Charltons box.

There’s11 players in our team and only 1 shone the kid all you lot ”SLAGGED-OFF-LAST-WEEK-4-GIVING-AWAY-A-PENAULTY” And yesterday he was the best thing since ”SCLICED-BREAD”

I do agree with 1 hammers-fan but what he said has been going on 4 the last 4,5,or 6 windows if not more-. ”LOWBALLING-WHAT-OTHER-TEAMS-WANT-4-THERE-PLAYERS”

We kept ”PARROTT” dangling on a piece of string until we had asked about 30 or 40 other strikers if they were 4 sale. ok. you see and hear of the top 6 clubs trying it on a bit but there talking about 80 100 125 million 4 players we;re talking about the difference between 15 million and 17.5 million. there’s a hell of a lot of difference lol then we walk away chucking our toys out the pram.

Why cant we be like 80 % of other teams see a player we like 4 25 mill and pay 25 mill 4 them and get them signed up. or is that 2 easy. .

And lastly. lets face it its only the second game and the new players have gotta have time to gel with each other you cant expect them all 2 HIT-THE-GROUND-RUNNING C O Y I’s

Paul, surely you can’t be suggesting, in your first paragraph, that it was Ollie Scarles that shone yesterday?

Sadly, his lack of pace was evident all too often, he was regularly caught out positionally, never once attempted to take on the fullback whilst ‘overlapping’ and every attempted cross failed to find a forward. All whilst being given acres of space on the left side.

Far from shining he confirmed, along with Diouf withdrawing his labour, that we have a big problem at left back!

Devin Mubama also scored the winner for SOTON, if we want to keep a full tally….

100 points?, it’s going to be a while before we reach 10…🤣

It is because of this overated manager that we are in the championship. His team selections and decisions last season were pathetic. I agree what he inherited was not great but his decisions in the first few games were shocking and so it continued. I have watched other league games this season and we are very mediocre, Wolves yesterday were brilliant, Millwall and also Blackburn were excellent. Losing at home to Charlton was a disgrace and for Nuno to spend nearly 50 million on Tatty and the Portuguese nobody just shows he has not a clue. Bring in Eddie Howe.

Good god, i get the negativity but this just pushes it too far . Fulkrug scored a penalty and Marshall scored in league one. Most agreed he wasnt good enough.

As for Engels. he didnt look overwhelmed , christ , hes played in front of these sort of crowds while he was at Celtic. . He looked ok but compared to our defenders he looked like a world beater.

Theres enough things to be negative about without you people making it worse.

  • Keith says:

Board please don’t mess around giving Nuno chances, sack him appoint Sean Dyche and let’s get out of the Championship.

  • Steve1 says:

Callum Marshall scoring in Div 1 doesn’t suddenly make him good enough for what we require, he isn’t, and there isn’t a West Ham fan on the planet that would want Fullkrug back.

Pointless article. I thought even you were better than that.

  • pat says:

How much more of this conmans guff are we supposed to put up with? He is not an elite manager and anyone thinks he is needs their head examining.

  • geoffrey risley says:

    its simples.
    send for eddie howe now.
total chaos from the board down to the manager.
