UK Athletics non payments hit public purse not Irons

|

StadiumNightJan726Top football writer and Hammers fan Martin Samuel has leapt to the defence of the Irons in a brilliantly considered piece on the London Stadium.

Samuel has long been recognised as one of the finest writers around and makes a simple and almost impossible to argue case in favour of the club over the London Stadium costs.

In a fine read he opens up by declaring: “What appears to have been lost is the £12million it costs to move and reconfigure the seats for athletics events each summer, to which UK Athletics contribute nothing. They, not West Ham, got the best deal from the public purse.

He adds: “Indeed, if the stadium was just used for West Ham’s home games, a summer timetable of pop concerts and the occasional major rugby fixture, it would actually be in the black each year.

The bulk of West Ham’s additional profit since moving comes, not from a larger stadium capacity, but from the increase in broadcast rights via the Premier League, which would have been received had the club remained at Upton Park.

We thoroughly recommend Martin’s thoughts to you and you can read more @ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5168851/Pep-Guardiola-justify-ways-Man-City-chiefs.html#ixzz515Dk1sgp
