West Ham’s transfer business for the remainder of the window will be both fascinating and absolutely crucial.
Armed with an additional £35 million from the sale of Lucas Paquetá, the Hammers have a genuine opportunity to improve the team rather than simply tread water.
However, reports linking West Ham with a loan move for Antonín Kinský from Tottenham Hotspur and Axel Disasi from Chelsea are underwhelming.
If they were to materialise, both deals would feel like little more than squad padding. Neither player would represent a clear upgrade on what Nuno Espírito Santo already has at his disposal in the first team.
Padding the Bench or Strengthening the XI?
As West Ham fans, there is always a temptation to get frustrated by something that has not yet happened. It is entirely possible that neither of these proposed deals comes to fruition.
But if they do, it would strongly suggest that the club’s focus is on bolstering the bench rather than improving the starting XI at a critical stage of the season.
With Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Spurs all seemingly prepared to spend heavily, West Ham could soon find themselves as the only side in the relegation scrap not to meaningfully strengthen their first team in the final week of the transfer window.
That would be a worrying position to be in — and one the club can ill afford.
Why would they want Kinsky? I mean it goes without saying that the Czech national side isn’t what it was in the late 90s/early 00s but it isn’t like they’ve had anything close to a Petr Cech for a decade and Kinsky can’t even make their squad.
Hermansen looked as useful as Herman Munster in his games but if we don’t want to use him then we’ve got Fabianski still. And Hermansen at least still regularly makes the Danish squads and their keepers are a lot higher quality than the Czechs have available.
So why the hell we considering having four goalkeepers on the books? Midfield is fine and plenty of cover so just get the CB (or two) that Stevie Wonder can see we need.
What happened to the AGUERD MILLIONS GONZO Has it done a magicalTommy Cooper disappearing act
I actually think Fernandes should be played in the 10 role in Paquetas position then get in a top quality defensive midfielder, like a young Declan Rice before he decided he wanted to be more attacking, to sit in front of the back four. If the centre backs can’t keep goals out give them some protection.
Anything positive ever spoken on this site?
yes indeed, but sometimes you do need to read them.
Strengthening the 11, if nothing else a number 10 and a commanding CB, Hayden Hackney and Hien have the ability to be game changing. I think given we are not in Europe no one is displacing Bowen on the right, Diouf could be used as left wing cover,Scarles right now is our best left back so I hope he doesn’t lose his place to Diouf, could probably also play Taty as a winger if needed.
If we look at the fixtures Palace play Forest next and that is 3 points to Forest all day long, it probably would have been anyway but without Wharton who was sent off in their defeat it is highly unlikely they will lose, probably equally why Forest have bid £35m for Mateta to upset the applecart prior to the match or withdraw the only player likely to cause their defenders problems. Will be interesting to see whether that was just mischief by Forest or genuine.
I think we probably need to win 6 more games with whomever we sign but bench fillers shouldn’t be the objective we need game changing options to win games even if it’s posssible Palace could sink like a stone, they seem like they have completely lost it, even so we need to keep picking up points to get ahead of them, Chelsea looked a real handful the other day so the weekend is going to be interesting if we could get something out of that it would be better. Utd who had looked woeful seem to be playing with a Ferguson philosophy if the last two games are anything to go by and that will now be a different fixture our players should be replayed the video of the last game at the Boleyn t get their tails up for that one COYI !!!
Great read 32. Thanks for these and your other comments too.
Gonzo this is typical Sulivan. In the past there has been no forward thinking, now with a little more pace in the team this is exactly what is needed. Get in a class centre back, do we need a midfielder, in a perfect world yes, but a centre back is what is needed. Kilman should never get near the pitch until he can improve himself. That may or may not happen but it certainly will take a while for him to do this.
It is another one of Sullivans making out he wants top players then right at the end says he could not get the deal over the line and then gets in a second rate player
If we aren’t going to get a player like Hien, Cresswell or Ordonnez in then there is no point wasting money on cb’s, we will need to replace Paqueta, imho the best choice for that is Hayden Hackney, a genuine no 10 but physically strong, I think he would transform our attack and is someone that has the potential to be World Class he is the player we should have signed instead of Pablo, Taty might get us 5 goals between now and the end f the season if we are lucky, I can see Pablo being better next season but right now he is a nuisance but is a bit short on quality and physicality. Hackney is easy on the ball and always seems to have time like most top players and can unlock defences unlike most of our players which will give us more options especially if Jemez can coach Taty to make better runs could make us a lot more effective at the sharp end.
