West Ham’s 0-0 against Rangers is not too shabby in the penultimate friendly before the start of the season, particularly given the Glasgow giants kick off their own campaign for real in a week’s time.
But hidden beneath the respectable draw, there seemed to be enough pointers to suggest that Nuno Espírito Santo has much work to do before West Ham are ready for the season opener in the Carabao Cup against Portsmouth.
The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
In this video, I look back at the game. It’s not just a review, but a look at individual players’ performances – the good, the bad and the ugly – from a team which is unlikely to be far away from Espírito Santo’s starting XI against Pompey and the following fixture against Burnley.
What Worked And What Didn’t
I’ll cover what I think worked, what I think didn’t and, almost as importantly, where West Ham are going to have to strengthen what is looking increasingly like an unbalanced and concerningly slow team.
It’s not all bad.
There were a couple of performances which were encouraging and, whilst the team seemed to be struggling for a cutting edge, there does seem to be a resolve to the Hammers’ defence which should see us at least become hard to beat if we can add a bit of pace and flair to our attack.
