West Ham 1 – 3 West Bromwich Albion | Incompetence rules OK

Eighth in the Championship might not seem too bad to the casual observer. But for a club of the size of West Ham United, expected to boss the division owing to their finances, their huge following and the massive reputations of most of their players and their manager, this is a crisis.

Anyone in the board room who thinks otherwise needs to go and find another sport to waste their money on.

Six goals conceded on consecutive Saturdays at home in the second division. No passion on the pitch. No drive – save for Jarrod Bowen pulling a goal back.

A static manager who makes no changes at half time after watching that abject first half performance.

Did anybody care, I wondered, other than the unfortunate tens of thousands who had paid hundreds to watch that largely disinterested group of players run around, orchestrated by an incompetent ‘coach’ on the sidelines who seems to be dreaming of a long holiday paid for by the West Ham board when their patience finally, inevitably snaps after watching a side of this value and cost perform like a team of fourth division misfits.

Disjoined substitutions – playing Soucek as a deep sitting, central midfielder when he should have been camped in the opposition ‘box for the last half an hour  – just don’t make sense. Taking off Mukasa again, West Ham’s most gifted midfielder. No plan.

The only ‘plus’ side was that millions of armchair Hammers fans avoided the pain of watching it live. Go watch the highlights and tell me I’m wrong but that manager, with that starting eleven, should have just ordered his own p45. I’ve been solidly behind Nuno and hate the idea of yet more upheaval but – in the immortal words of the Stranglers:

“Something’s happening and it’s happening right now – You’re too blind to see it – Something’s happening and it’s happening right now – Ain’t got time to wait..I said something better change”

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Curse you Shaun Wright-Phillips.
I still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows another six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser.
Can tell I'm getting old knowing I watched both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old.
Magic.

I doubt if even Pep could have made a difference to that starting 11 and bench.
Just a poor poor squad in a poor poor club

  • Rob says:

Gonzo, attitude mate. Slow moving the ball, never use ball over the top so forwards stopped moving for it and opposition knows whats coming. Switch off when we loose the ball. All things Nuno should have sorted in the first 3 games!

  • Deano says:

Cannot see anything changing, we are just a poorly run football club.
As you mentioned, who is in charge?
We get sacked managers on the cheap and recruit players from relegated teams

3 games list at home and we are not even into November!
    Bye bye Nuno 👋

I’ve never despised a manager as much as I do as Nuno. That includes Avram Grant and Glenn Roeder.

The bloke has zero charisma and personality. There’s absolutely nothing about him.

He’s clueless and cagey tactically. He has no idea what his best XI is. Regardless of opposition, he always plays one up front.

We start games so slowly and we often go a goal down. Sometimes two. His in-game subs are often poor and perplexing.

He managed us for 33 games out of 38 last season, relegated us, yet still kept his job.

I don’t know what he has to do to lose his job. He’s an absolute fraud and a loser with no idea, plan, or identity.

If we have any ounce of ambition about us, we’d bin him immediately. We won’t though. Therein lies the problem.

Nuno needs to go but some of those players are frauds also. Engles is so overrated, Pablo is a clown and Hermansen has become a liability. It’s going to take more than a change of manager to fix this circus.

  • Julian Woodhouse says:

Nuno is a fraud. It was the arrival of Paco that saw an upturn in our performances but before that and since it has overall been utterly putrid. Now 2 wins in 6 in the Championship!!!
