West Ham are in winter window trouble
Although hopes seemed to be rising that Kalvin Phillips could arrive on loan, the Hammers have told Claret and Hugh that it is a very pricey deal at a time when they claim to be short of funds!
If the Hammers were to conclude such a deal it would make the England midfielder their highest paid player on wages of around £175k a week, some £40k higher than Jarrod Bowen.
David Moyes is a big admirer of the player but such a personal terms deal would certainly put the cat firmly amid the pigeons with the Jarrod, Lucas Paqueta and Mo Kudus being on less.
The club have admitted that it is a seriously costly deal and that at this stage although talks are going on they have a dozen other players they are looking at.
Manchester City – with much interest elsewhere in Phillips – will not be ready to pay a part of the player’s wages which is making negotiations difficult.
Our source made it clear that the winter window – as is usually the case – is proving very difficult saying: “We are looking at a dozen players, we might get one or two or none. Its about value for money as we have limited funds.”
So you could say that the Hammers are in Winter Slumberland.
I don’t think Calvin Phillips is worth the financial risk of his injury problems and also of creating unrest amongst the other players regarding his wages.
