Luís Guilherme just seems like a good egg, doesn’t he? On a day when West Ham United were embroiled in yet more turmoil and rumour, the Brazilian youngster completed his move to Sporting CP.
Guilherme left a parting message for West Ham supporters, explaining how sorry he was that he could not help more in the club’s relegation scrap. It was a classy touch and one that said a lot about the player.
We will never truly know how things might have worked out, but the 19-year-old always appeared to have that Pablo Fornals-type attitude — something exemplified by his public desire to stay at the London Stadium just last month.
A Talent Never Trusted
Everyone will have their own view on why he was never really given a chance at West Ham, but it is hard to escape the feeling that it had plenty to do with the nature of his arrival. Former director of football Tim Steidten takes far too much blame internally for the club’s poor recruitment record.
The reality is that West Ham’s transfer failings stretch well beyond Steidten’s tenure, but as his so-called “star pick”, Guilherme’s face was perhaps never going to fit.
The biggest frustration — for both supporters and the player himself — is that he was never properly tested. Not in the first team, not with the Under-21s, and not even via a short loan to see whether he could make an impact in the EFL Championship.
Like most, I genuinely hope he does well. Not just for the lad himself, but also because it may yet underline just how badly the West Ham hierarchy have played this one.

Good luck for the future Luis, I will watch your career from afar with interest. I don’t agree that Steidten gets too much grief, his elevation to DOF with final say on transfers cost us our best manager in years, then he manages to spend £150m on dross.
He will be better coached at sporting and given a chance
Gonzo , couldn’t have said it better mate !! The fact he’s got a sell on clause says it all …..With Summerville not performing..oh well , hope he does well.
I would like to wish Gulhimere all the best for the future and hope he proves our owners and Managers wrong
I have always felt he was never given a fair chance, unable to play in the under 21’s to get game time, but most of the time on the bench
Great shame
You are one player who wanted to stay and help the club avoid the drop and I have great respect for you
May you prosper in you new team
He was given a chance in pre-season and drew some good comments.
Pushed from pillar to post being used in several positions.
Never complaining and expressed his delight being on the pitch.
An excellent attitude whilst at club and wanted to fight for his position..
Hope he does well now at a club that might appreciate him.
Good luck to the lad.
Can’t understand many of nuno’s decisions. He came on late against Liverpool and was one of the only bright lights in an awful performance. And the next game he didn’t even make the bench ? I think he needs his self belief boosted a bit as I think that’s where his problem is but good luck to him he should be glad to get away from this toxic horrendously run club.
He was and will prove to be far too good for this circus, he will given the chance be an incredible player, he never fitted the “tried, trusted and broken ” criteria, West Ham will rue the day( nothing new ) . I for one wish him well, and have little dou t he will have a good career playing for a well run football club. West Ham have become a team that has become so one dimensional, other teams get REALLY dissapointed if they don’t beat us , awful team, terrible self serving owners , inadequate manager, after 60 years supporting, it does feel so sad it has come to this.🙏🏻🤔
Disagree entirely, he was given chances and was poor
Just 6 tiny words Gonzo We are going to regret this
I think it’s a crying shame that he was never given a real chance. I expect him to shine elsewhere.
