UEFA announced yesterday that the Euro 2020 championships will be postponed until the summer of 2021.

There now seems a strong desire by domestic leagues including the Premier League to finish the current season to avoid the financial and legal ramification in declaring the current season null and void.  Premier League clubs would lose tens of millions and West Ham themselves have estimated their losses would be at least £43.5m if the season was cancelled with no further games played.

The Premier League meet on Thursday and they are likely to discuss various options but with the Euros cancelled May, June and July are now free to attempt to complete the season.

No-one knows what the state of the pandemic will be by then but some world scientists believe this disease like Flu may reduce the spread when warmer temperatures come to the UK.

How long the Government’s policy of social distancing will continue is unclear at the moment and they may still yet ban large public gatherings as a further measure.

The Premier League together with broadcasters will seriously consider playing the remaining games of this season behind closed doors to reduce the risk and get this season done.
