West Ham fan avoids court appearance

|

A young West Ham fan who shouted a racist term towards players at the crystal palace match has been referred to his local youth offending team, He has written a letter of apology and will have to attend an educational session with West Ham and Kick it Out.

Dedicated West Ham Met Police Officer Andy Sheldon added “The circumstances around the case of this young man and his honesty when interviewed meant we could take a route that didn’t mean he was put before the courts and offered education instead (In consultation with the victims)”

Claret and Hugh say:

It is good to hear a bit of common sense has been used on this occasion instead of this young supporter being criminally charged and receiving a criminal record and football banning order from the courts. Let’s hope the youngster has learnt from this incident and others can learn from it too.
