West Ham could be offered a second bite of the cherry in their attempts to sign Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho.

As Claret & Hugh exclusively revealed earlier today, Sancho was offered to the Hammers by Manchester United for an “affordable sum.” The transfer only failed to materialise because the on-loan Chelsea wideman was considered the wrong type of player by Irons manager Graham Potter.

However, C&H has also learned that Man United gave West Ham a 48-hour window in which to declare their interest, with Chelsea dithering over whether to take up their £25m option.

West Ham were in the process of completing their due diligence on Sancho when the deadline expired, with Potter having the final veto.

Since then, the West Londoners have decided against taking up the option and have instead sent a £5m compensation payment to Old Trafford to escape triggering the obligation to buy. Chelsea are now weighing up a bid for Reading-born Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who was previously on the books at Stamford Bridge as a boy.

Whether Graham Potter will now take the chance to sign Sancho, now that he’s no longer under pressure to make a snap decision, remains unknown. But C&H has been informed that tentative enquiries have been made through Kyle Macaulay’s Chelsea contacts to get insight into the player’s character during his time at the Bridge.

Any potential deal between West Ham and Manchester United is said to be encouragingly-structured, affordable, and not predicated on the Hammers selling players first.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

I thought Potter rejected him. Why would he change his mind? Sancho is the most overhyped player ever. Maybe he was good for a spell in Germany but in the premier league he’s not been that great. More style than substance as they say.

Who is the ‘assassin’ from st etienne that other sites are talking about…clips I’ve seen, very TC like….

£300k a week wages – Nuff said. Next story please.

Undoubtedly a good player but seems to blow hot and cold. Ten Hag had a huge falling out with him over his attitude and I don’t think we need any more players upsetting the apple cart. If it was up to me I would avoid. Shame really because he is a match winner on his day. Those days don’t come around often enough though. I think the crazy money these players are on hugely affects some of their attitudes. He should be a regular starter at a top club but needs to really knuckle down and prove himself. Would do well to look at how those PSG youngsters apply themselves.

  • Time for Change says:

Would rather swerve Sancho, since leaving Man City under a cloud, I’d rather we played Summerville on the left wing as he is a fighter and tracks back.

Can we please focus on what we need and balance our squad for a change!

If you think Manchester United are desperate now wait until the end of the window. They’ll have bought their shiny new players(most of which will then suffer a enormous decline in form or do their ACL’s once they join the Red Devils) and still be struggling to get any of their overpaid ‘stars’ out of the door.

  • Jack Smith says:

Typical Sully loves a shiny new toy, not the player we need. Need to move away from these big timers with terrible attitudes. Need a proper team.

    • B says:

      Sullivan loves a bargain!
The £300k pw (£15mil. per annum) only has 1 year remaining, so at a price, he may be a steal.

Do we have real evidence of Jadon Sancho’s poor attitude?
