West Ham remain firmly in the hunt for Olympiacos forward Charalampos Kostoulas ahead of the summer transfer window.
Claret & Hugh were first to reveal the Hammers’ interest in the 17-year-old, who is widely tipped to become a major star in European football.
However, West Ham face serious competition from Manchester United, who are reportedly growing increasingly confident of securing the youngsterās signature.
Graham Potter currently has a shortlist of striker targets, and a top London Stadium source has confirmed to C&H that a centre forward remains a priority.
That said, Potterās top targets have been described by insiders as overly ambitious, with West Ham unlikely to attract ā or afford ā names such as Samuel Omorodion Aghehowa.
A senior transfer source told Claret & Hugh: āIt could be Jhon DurĆ”n all over again ā West Ham are chasing Champions League players they canāt afford anyway.ā
The Irons famously made a Ā£45m bid for DurĆ”n in January, just weeks after Aston Villa had rejected a Ā£70m offer from PSG. Similarly, West Ham were said to be Ā£25m short of Portoās valuation for Omorodion ā highlighting a growing pattern of setting sights on players well outside the club’s financial reach.
Given that, it’s no bad thing to have more realistic backup options ā and if Graham Potter can guarantee Kostoulas first-team football, it could give West Ham the edge over Manchester United.
Why are we looking at greek 17 year olds when we have our own academy players.
Or just put another teenager on the benchā¦on the plus side it makes our u21ās strongerā¦
Not a Hope in hell
How can we guarantee a 17 year a starting place? He might not be up to it, or not yet ripe for premier league football. Silly suggestion.
We should just go all out for Delap and leave it at that!!
Delap is the obvious choice, but what do us mere supporters knowā¦.just a thought,we could use the 50 odd million we put aside for Duranā¦..or was it Simon Le Bonā¦just sayingā¦.
