Opinions amongst supporters vary as to the action required to improve West Ham United’s squad when the January transfer window comes around, in just over nine weeks’ time. Some are adamant the defensive duo of Kilman and Mavropanos needs a reset- others are still hankering over a creative midfielder.
After yesterday’s poor result there seems a new degree of urgency added to the ‘new goal keeper‘ lobby.
Whatever the choice that Nuno and Nils Koppen make depends on there being funds available to actually strengthen the squad.
After the tame performance yesterday we thought it appropriate to reach out to one of our sources within West Ham United – who spoke to us only with the assurance that we keep their identity confidential – to establish what the funding position will be for West Ham’s January window: Do we have to sell yet more players in order to buy, or is there a budget?
“There is money available to spend in January’s transfer window”

Too many goals conceded in the Championship: But funds are available, apparently, to strengthen the squad in January
Came the response: Tracking down good players is tough as we know in the winter window – whilst the ‘Championship’ issue is an obvious challenge:
“But attracting good players into the Championship is difficult”
Nils Koppen did a pretty good job last summer with the likes of Austbø, Engels, Mukasa, Solomon and Piroe adding to the squad depth within the second division: Now he’ll really have to prove his mettle, providing of course Nuno makes the right call over where he wants the squad reinforcing.
But it sounds as if – at least – the forward planning is well under way and money has been allocated. How much, and for who, will be questions for West Ham’s recruiters to pore over in the coming weeks.
Right now we only have two players of premier league quality ( Mav or Bowen ) . We have a number of young players who might get to that level ( Engels , Makassa , kante , orford , Fearon , austbo etc) We may be better served by spending another year in the championship and to recruit more young players with potential so that when we do go up we have a team that can compete.
Meanwhile I am really enjoying the thrills and spills of the championship
If funds are limited, and Areola would do for now, we need a CB! Could Disasi be tempted away from Palace?
