If there is one thing the delay in appointing a Director of Football has demonstrated, it’s that West Ham probably need to get a wriggle on getting ready for next season.
With a little over six weeks to go until the start of the campaign, it does feel like very little is happening at the club despite all the promising messaging.
Nickson Delay Adds To The Anxiety
Rumours that the Hammers may have lost top target Steve Nickson to a late bid from Wrexham have understandably got supporters a little nervous.
Nickson has been interviewed by West Ham and the terms of his employment agreed, but as we know in football, it’s always possible to get pipped at the post by a rival.
It’s worth pointing out that restructuring the recruitment department is a pledge directly from West Ham.
Plenty Of Positivity But Little Substance
At the moment, there are plenty of good news stories.
Whether it be about the stadium, key players remaining or even billionaire investors being shown around the club, there is certainly no shortage of optimism.
But unfortunately, until we actually see something happen, there is only so much excitement that can be maintained before it turns to nerves.
West Ham Need Something Tangible
Ironically, the lack of infrastructure is helping keep our key players at present, but it is doing nothing to help recruit new ones.
At some point, West Ham fans could do with something solid to get behind.
Just something tangible to restore the faith that we really are as ambitious as we claim to be.
Because with the countdown to the new season well underway, time will become an issue very soon.

Do they need to buy if they are not going to sell. Also why not loan players for 1 year from Premiership clubs as we should have done last year instead of the risky Pablo purchase!
Something very wrong with our club in the past Gonzo Looking at the world cup Alvarez captains Mexico Diop plays for Morroco Loopy loo and Potter managing sides but not good enough for W Ham So we must have faith and patience in the new setup CANT BE ANY WORSE CAN IT
It’s been a massive infrastructure upheaval in a very short time. If Nickson doesn’t come — but I hope he will — they’ll find someone else.
We’re in a position where we don’t have to have a fire sale. And until someone actually leaves, we’re sitting on a very, very strong squad at this level.
No need for anxiety; every need for patience.
