West Ham are reportedly in a massive hurry to sign AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott, with ExWHUEmployee suggesting the Hammers want a deal completed in time for him to be registered to face Burnley.

In this video, I discuss why I believe that urgency is entirely justified despite West Ham beginning the season with an encouraging 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Portsmouth.

West Ham Need Troy Parrott

Taty Castellanos scored twice yesterday and demonstrated exactly what West Ham need from a striker. His partner Pablo certainly worked hard and produced a much-improved performance, but the gulf in quality between the two was still significant.

I actually found myself applauding Pablo for doing some of the basics simply because I’m willing him to succeed. Unfortunately, effort alone isn’t enough. He’s still too slow, his first touch isn’t good enough and he doesn’t look like a genuine goal threat.

With Joel Veltman signed and Manor Solomon set to be announced tomorrow, getting Parrott through the door in time for Burnley would be another step forward.

A striker who can match Pablo’s effort while adding greater pace and technical quality could improve this West Ham team enormously.
