West Ham Receive Mavropanos Injury Boost As Return Date Emerges

West Ham have received a welcome injury boost with reports suggesting Konstantinos Mavropanos could return before the November international break, following fears that the defender faced a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

According to The Athletic, the Greek international’s knee injury is not as serious as initially feared following further assessment. Mavropanos sustained the problem during Saturday’s 3-2 defeat against Southampton, leaving Nuno Espírito Santo facing a worrying shortage of central defenders.

The latest development represents a significant improvement on the initial injury concerns reported by Claret & Hugh, which suggested Mavropanos could be missing for several weeks.

How Many West Ham Games Could Mavropanos Miss?

The Hammers have three Championship fixtures before the November international break, which begins on 9 November.

They face West Bromwich Albion at home on Saturday, followed by trips to Cardiff City on Wednesday 4 November and Blackburn Rovers on Saturday 7 November.

If Mavropanos returns in time for Blackburn, he would miss two matches. However, should his recovery take longer, he could miss all three, with Preston North End visiting the London Stadium on 21 November.

No specific return date has been confirmed.

For West Ham, this is potentially excellent news. Mavropanos has become an important part of Nuno’s defence and, with five Championship goals already, is also the club’s second-highest scorer.

His absence would be felt at both ends of the pitch, particularly with West Ham’s recognised strikers struggling for goals.

The manager still has a selection problem against West Brom, but at least there is now some encouragement that his most prolific defender might not be missing for quite as long as initially feared.
