Last night, when Aston Villa were easily beaten by Tottenham Hotspur, I honestly didn’t think this game week could get any worse for West Ham United. That was until today when fellow relegation rivals Nottingham Forest moved six points ahead of the Hammers by beating Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge with their reserve team.
Like many, I had at least held out some hope that when Liam Rosenior was sacked at Stamford Bridge, there might be some sort of upturn in form. And whilst Forest’s thumping win may not be the final nail in West Ham’s Premier League coffin, the lid has certainly gone down with a few nails already in place.
West Ham Rivals Pulling Away At Worst Possible Time
The real problem with Chelsea’s capitulation may not be so much that Forest are now all but safe from the relegation fight, but rather Tottenham still have to play Chelsea, and on this showing it will be a complete and utter mismatch.
Even the most optimistic Hammers fans will no doubt be feeling it after this weekend’s results. Following the Hammers’ 3-0 defeat to Brentford, it’s difficult to look at Tottenham, Forest or indeed Leeds United and not come to the conclusion that all three teams appear now to be in far too good a shape to capitulate.
Recent Results Leave West Ham Facing Harsh Reality
As for West Ham, there are multiple games and decisions that have played their part in the club’s position in the bottom three. But in more recent fixtures, the loss to Brentford and the draw against a reshuffled Crystal Palace team at Selhurst Park appear to have caused irreversible damage.
I think we’re down, and honestly it’s hard to argue we deserve anything else. Fair play to Leeds and Forest. They’ve shown the fight, organisation and belief needed to survive. We’ve spent years drifting, making bad decisions, wasting money on poor recruitment, and expecting it not to catch up with us. Well, now it has.
What frustrates me most is that this hasn’t come out of nowhere. The warning signs have been there for years, but nothing really changed. Short-term fixes, no clear direction, and a squad that’s been built so badly it was always going to collapse eventually.
And people talking like the Championship will be a reset need a reality check. It’s ruthless, relentless, and every side will treat playing us like a cup final, especially at home.
In a strange way, I almost wish we’d gone down in January when it felt inevitable. At least then you accept it and move on. This recent run gave us hope again, and that’s what makes it worse, giving fans something to believe in, only for the same failures to drag us right back here. Sigh.
The worst run in scenario possible is all coming together now ? Chelsea won’t beat Spurs it seems and Everton and Leeds won’t have much to play for – they could get 9 points and game over.
Can we beat motivated Arsenal and Newcastle let alone Leeds?
1 point between us and Spurs 9 to play for COYI Let’s go beat Arsenal Everything can change again overnight
The start of the season was the problem, blame the board for it. The number of blunders that have been made cannot other than have consequences
We are down Gonzo… everything that could go wrong has happened…it feels like a conspiracy.. but of course it’s not…my real fear is that we do a Leicester… but there is hope.. despite how small it might be
