Despite there being no confirmation yet from inside the club that their chosen Head of Recruitment is in situ, West Ham appear to be working hard behind the scenes to refashion their squad for the Championship campaign which kicks off next month.

Nils Koppen – whilst widely tipped as the designated appointee for the recruitment hot seat this summer – has yet to be announced and is still, apparently, in the employ of FC Copenhagen.

Nevertheless the Hammers have targets ready to go according to reports, and have already tried and failed with one bid and are now planning further negotiations with Leicester City over one of their relegated squad members.

According to Thehardtackle.com‘s report today:

“Improved bid on the table for Leicester winger.”

“West Ham United are expected to return with an improved offer for attacking target Abdul Fatawu after Leicester City rejected their earlier approach.

West Ham are actively pursuing new wingers in the summer window, and Fatawu’s 80+ Championship appearances and 9 goals, 8 assists last season address the club’s attacking depth amid squad uncertainty.

Reportedly the likely subject of a second West Ham bid – Leicester’s Abdul Fatawu

The Leicester winger scored nine goals and provided eight assists for the Foxes last season in the Championship, but could not prevent the club from suffering relegation to League One”

Articles around the internet suggest anything from £12-£15 million for the winger may be on the table. A whole lot less than the Hammers will likely bank, should a Summerville sale to Manchester United (or oddly- Fulham) go ahead at the reported £50 million plus price.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
