It wouldn’t be the international break without all sorts of tables and statistics being produced to analyse the performance of just about every aspect of league teams in all competitions so far this season.

Whilst it is a little early for anyone to start crowing over their own side’s superstar performers, there’s an interesting (and objective) article just appeared ranking the ‘top best 15 EFL Championship players so far this season‘ offering an insight into the movers and shakers in the second tier.

West Ham, sitting second in the table, have Divine Mukasa ranked 15th by Footballleagueworld.co.uk and skipper Jarrod Bowen making it to second spot behind Fer Lopez.

The Wolves 22 year old all – action Spaniard is ranked top, ahead of Bowen with the caveat that, with his relegation hangover now clearing there’s far more to come from West Ham’s talisman:

“The West Ham captain has four goals and three assists from the right wing already, yet there is an ominous feeling that he has barely needed to get out of second gear.

Bowen remains capable of producing decisive moments at any point, combining intelligent movement to crash the box, with the quality to finish chances or create them for teammates, as well as the leadership needed for a 46-game campaign.

Bowen and Taty celebrate after scoring for West Ham

Jarrod Bowen was not called up for international duty and will now be rested and brimming full of confidence having overcome the relegation hangover

His experience and status within the West Ham squad gives him an influence beyond the numbers. If this is Bowen at less than full capacity, the rest of the Championship should be wary.”

It’s a feeling which West Ham fans have shared, watching Bowen seemingly rediscover his love for the game after two gruelling, mentally and physically exhausting seasons at the foot of the Premier  League.

And yes, indeed, Bowen returning to anything like his 2023 best will be a tantalising prospect for the next tranche of games in which the rest of the league will have to be rightly wary.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
