Twelve points in eleven days is something pretty special for West Ham fans to wake up to, after a scintillating performance sent Wrexham’s team bus, along with their deflated supporters, on a very long, no doubt very quiet journey back down the M4 (if their SatNav is anything like mine) in the small hours.
Truth be, as Hammers fans, we’d forgotten how this felt, such has been the procession of mediocre, joyless fayre served up by Lopetegui, Potter and early Nuno. The only six goal thrashings we’d witnessed were inflicted on us, not by us.
So if we revel in Friday night’s performance for the weekend ahead with the highlights on repeat, who can blame us.
It wasn’t just the six goals, it was the freedom of a side that seemingly played to each players’ maximum potential: The running, the passing, the movement – and the finishing. Outstanding. The fact that any one of about seven players could arguably have won the man of the match award spoke volumes for the team performance overall.

Difficult to be objective after everything finally clicked for Nuno, from his selection of a ‘stealth’ left back who looked supreme to the re-introduction of Taty instead of Pablo. Capitalfootball.co.uk provided a welcome bit of balance, lest we all get carried away:
“It had been nearly three years since West Ham last won four games in a row – but they have reached that marker to once again signal their intention not to hang around too long in the Championship.
They are back on top of the league – at least until tomorrow – and look more than capable of staying in and around the top slots in the months ahead…”
Amen to that. And of course, we know it is ‘only‘ the Championship; Enough of that. Last night both Nuno and his squad finally awoke, seemingly freed from their Premier League relegation hangover, and performed accordingly.
Putting six past Wrexham is only the start of it, and tougher defences will rock up at London Stadium.But the manager, the team and the supporters now have a pretty clear vision of what ‘excellence’ looks like this season. There’ll still be games when West Ham have to dig in and win ugly. We’ll still moan and groan and demand more – because that’s what we all do.
But just this weekend, for all the pain of being a West Ham United fan for the last couple of years, it is enough just to say ‘well done guys’ and enjoy how this feels. COYI!
Great win but lets not get carried away with the result the players were outstanding great to see the goals that were class but we will face tougher games as the season goes on but for now lets just be over the moon with the result and enjoy the moment despite the tougher games ahead we will be top of the leaque when the season ends
As John Ayris posts on another article, this was a mismatch. There is no Sunderland, Leeds or Coventry in the Championship, don’t know about other teams yet – we’ll see.
This is the rebuild a lot of posts from last season were saying could happen, if WHU were relegated and that is what it looks like. A rebuild for next season with recruitment in January and melding a team together – like Leeds and Sunderland who are doing well in the their 2nd PL season.
To me most exciting are the young players (including Mukasa & Engles, ex-academy,etc.) and how this is a perfect time for them to gain invaluable experience and prove themselves. That goal smashed in by Kante, was similar to his impact at U21s.
It shows the patience needed by a manager for these players to show a bit of what they really can do. Mind you that was spectacular.😊
I’m looking forward to that. In this environment, with very good players around them, a growing winning mentality and a lot of talent on show, it is a good time for them. Perhaps players such as Magassa can also flourish, better than before in readiness for future seasons.

At last. It has taken a while, too long, but suppose this is the time it can take for a manager to bring together the elements he needs, including recruiting and removing players who do not fit, or won’t always try. Also fixing errors, such as 5 at the back.
He has stuck with his 4-2-4 or 4-2-1-3 (not sure why everyone calls it 4-4-2 all the time, when Solomon & Bowen are further up the pitch as wingers) and has stopped going overly defensive.
Great to watch some beautiful goals, Kante’s was incredible and the others all came from neat passing, unselfish play and well taken goals. What a transformation. Mukasa definitely running the show from midfield. Piroe & Taty are similar players, very good technically, lovely movement off the ball and made to combine well. Not many teams have two 9s, or perhaps they are two 10s (?) playing so far forward. Hope Orford plays more (not sure how) because can see the progress made by Scarles & Kante with enough minutes, trust & increasing confidence.
WHU are doing to teams what we’ve been on the receiving end of for sooo long. With no VAR and performances like these, with so much skill and energy on the pitch, it feels like coming home 😊… at last.

Admittedly Wrexham we’re surprisingly very poor and the was not real test for the defence, but looked comfortable together pass out from the back and going forward was electrifying.
The forwards were playing as a team, passing to each other rather than trying to score themselves seeing their team mate in a better position to score.Taty in particular had a occasion early in the game when he should have passed, but learnt very quickly that it is a team game and it does not matter who scores as long as we do.He looked very happy and the celebration of Priore goal shied that, it can be just as rewarding setting up you team mate

My first impression during the game really before immediately after was that it was a mismatch Martin and that was my comment last evening.
This morning I’m still seeing a mismatch as we outclassed Wrexham in every area. 6-0 was not some fortunate result it could have been more.
Morato at left back is a fixture now surely, others played well but that was a tactical win for the boss as well as a played well.
I do not remember the last time we outclassed a team quite like that, I think we dominated more than we did even in the 5-0 against Frieburg in the Europa League two and a half years ago.
Early Nuno. You mean 4 games ago.
I think even he has woken up to the fact this team can demolish sides at this level as the quality in the side is so much better than other teams.
Fair play as Morato for Scarles was a great move. Someone who can defend, get forward, and set up a goal was nice to see from our LB. Great to see Ajala get on and Pablo left on the bench.
All tough decisions but it felt like Nuno finally woke up yesterday.
Look forward to 6 changes for the next game..
Hope to see much more of Ajala, he’ll fit right in with a team playing quick, flowing football; it’s tailor made for him.
It would be a very long journey back if they took the M4, unless they don’t live in Wrexham
