West Ham have reportedly contacted Southampton to discuss a potential season—long loan for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
The former Arsenal shot stopper has a £25m relegation exit clause, yet with limited funds the Hammers are exploring all options.
The Saints may be open to a loan deal, especially with the possibility of recalling Ramsdale if they secure promotion back to the Premier League next season. However West Ham face competition as both Manchester United and Leeds United are said to be monitoring the situation.
Self proclaimed West Ham fan Will Still was appointed Southampton manager over the weekend and will be evaluating his squad in preparation for a return to the championship, with a number of players attracting interest from other clubs.
C&H believe that – as per C and H this morning – the Hammers have also previously made enquiries about central defender Taylor Harwood Bellis – whose agent Will Salthouse has close ties with West Ham.
However, latest reports suggest the Hammers may now look elsewhere as the 23 year old is currently sidelined after undergoing ankle surgery and could be out for six to twelve weeks.
Lot of people THROWING SHADE (to use the young person’s vernacular) at Ramsdale…and no he wouldn’t necessarily fumble the shade if it was thrown at him before anyone pipes up.
But he does have more than 200 PL appearances under his belt at 26 years old. Also 5 England caps. Soton fans seem to rate him based on their end of season reviews of their squad (not Harwood-Bellis or Walker-Peters though this season).
I do wonder if the criticism comes from us potentially signing him off relegated Soton. I reckon a year ago if we’d got him off Arsenal there wouldn’t have been half as many complaints.
Some of our fans seem to want Kelleher at the moment. Presumably because be plays for Liverpool. I would guess if he moves to one of the promoted sides and gets relegated next season no one will want him 12 months from now either.
Perhaps Westham intend , with genius Potter tactics to have both Areola and Ramsdale in goal to reduce goals conceded , since no amount of outfield defensive players seems to help .
I’d rather sell Kudus to Liverpool and request Caolmhin Kelleher as a makeshift in the deal Ramsdale no better than Areola whereas the Liverpool stopper top draw and would be the number one
Never looks all that whenever I’ve seen him. Always seems to have an error in him. Think people get a bit carried away because he plays (sits on the bench) for Liverpool.
The amount of Ramsdale stories on C&H talking about him positively must surely mean Sullivan is signing him 🤔
Two relegations is suspect, but three is probably why Ramsdale wouldn’t get a start for a top 10 club. If he is not a massive upgrade on Areola, then save £20m on a GK and put it towards a striker we so badly need!
