News that West Ham could be set to breach FFP and PSR regulations couldn’t have come at a worse time.
Because just as the club has unofficially admitted “We’re skint,” it coincides precisely with the moment they’ve hired a manager who desperately needs money to succeed.
Even Graham Potter’s biggest advocates have admitted that the Hammers boss will need to bring in his own players to make real improvements at the London Stadium.
Potter appears to be a “project manager” — someone who struggles to get a tune out of other people’s players and instead needs his players to play his football.
Therefore, the news that West Ham’s transfer kitty is practically non-existent could not have been worse for him.
Only two weeks ago, Potter was said to be excited about the upcoming transfer window, with new signings reportedly being lined up. However, as things stand, he may have to cut his cloth — and likely hang onto players he would have otherwise moved on.
There’s little doubt that the value of most of West Ham’s squad has depreciated during this dreadful run of form, with the club sinking to the depths of the Premier League.
Expectations that West Ham will be able to sell players for top money now seem like pure wishful thinking — and you have to wonder if Potter is still quite so excited about the summer window.
The club’s decision to appoint a project manager — one who needs serious financial backing — instead of a firefighter who could get more out of the current squad, is starting to look like a very questionable choice.
Of course, it could all be smoke and mirrors to strengthen West Ham’s bargaining position when negotiating fees. But if the one thing Potter needs — money to rebuild — is now unlikely to materialise, you do have to ask… what was the point?
I keep reading how we need cash especially as we are selling our brightest assets for a rebuild. Just a theory but if WHU keep their brightest assets then we do not need a rebuild, do we? Sell players in those positions where an improvement in quality is needed, not their performance levels. Performance levels are the coaches’ and the manager’s responsibility and this Summer is the time for this.
If certain players threaten to do a Payet, then that is a different matter, but nowhere is there mention of this.
We need some legs in midfield and a younger no 9. This is normal recruitment. If deciding to sell Kudus because the business opportunity is too good, well WHU is not yet a club that can keep all its best assets. If Emerson and Coufal have buyers and wish to leave what is extraordinary with this? We cannot buy decent full backs to replace them? why?
Now the theory is the manager cannot work with players such as Paqueta, Kudus, Fullkrug, Summerville, Guilherme, Todibo, Potts, Earthy, Scarles, … I just don’t buy it. Nothing I read about Summer recruitment makes sense. Not just here at C&H, but across the board.
In midfield if sell JWP and Alvarez, both good players who will have buyers, are we not able to bring in a couple of replacements given the computer analysis + agents in UK, europe and South America that work at WHU? This just normal end of season turnover.
Everyone has an idea who they would sell, buy & I am not a manager, am just saying we could do a lot of normal business to improve the team, add legs, youth and potential and have a decent season and avoid relegation. Recruit again once the club is in a better situation
If Potters can not improve the team with the players he have, and says he needs to bring the whole new 25 players then he is a joke, if you ask me to the maximum he has to introduce 4 players, the players at his disposal are very good, it is him who does not have plan and hiding behind “i need my players”. To me Westham has suffer alot from managers who forget their professionalism and take things personal, we hear the manager has beef with so and so player and ending up not using that player, just because he disagree with some minor issues. Westham suffers from managers/coach not using players at their best positions, or droping players just becaise he did not performs well or make a mistake, take an example Combination of Said Ben Rahma and Cresswell, then came Ermeson, who plays and is as good as was Cresswell, but the manager could not forge the combination of Ben Rahma and Emerson, and ending Ben Rahma sold, just next season after lifting the Conference Cup where he was a regular player. We say Arguad is not fit for Premeir League “too slow, can be bullied”, but Lampad signed Thiago Silver at old age and he left his mark at Chelsea, played under different managers. So far Moyes has not yet bring in alot of new players at Everton but Everton performs better since he took the reins, and othe teams which suck their former managers are doing fine with same players who “were underperforming”, Potters is a problem.

Who the hell is this Ben Rahma bloke?
And you think we only need 4 players? You’re living in cloud cuckoo land!
The Player who score a penalt at CONFERENCE CUP final. The guy who was given a responsibility of taking Penalt for Westham. Don’t be that …
Kyle Walker Peters has rejected us for Fulham Can you blame him Who would want to come from a relegated side to our team now favourites to go down next year Potter will be next to leave us hes seen enough now to know our amateur we are No money allowed to be spent is all bull What happens to the 57 million alone we had a bid for Duran in the last window
So called itk sites that purport to be fans are painting the picture blacker almost day by day, Is this because the “close sources” want them to do that for whatever reason?
It’s all these alleged leaks that contribute towards us having become the circus that we are now known as. Bad enough that we are struggling on the pitch whether it’s due to poor purchases, an old squad not fit for the Premier League or generally players noy giving their all, which after all is what the majority of us ask for, but to add the rest of the shitfest that is allowed to happen is just unacceptable.
COYI
Too much chopping and changing, mostly down to poor decisions by the board. I’d like to blame Sully but there seems to be a lot of people involved so no one truly knows who is making each decisions.
12 managers since the turn of the century and one of them was Macari. 9 in our first 100 years.
So that tells you doesn’t matter the owners, doesn’t matter if we stick with managers we had 4 trophies worth talking about in a 100 years and a 3rd place finish.
I’m starting to wonder if the ‘careful what you wish’ for brigade were right, or the club is built on some ancient burial site and is just cursed.
Lou Macari was one of our 12 managers since 2000? Really, the same Macari that managed for six months of the 1989/90 season?
Yep poorly worded by me, Macari was one of the 9, before Bonds. But you got my point.
people like you divide the fanbase even further. Every financial expert states we are no where near breaching PSR. If we are skint as you put it, then that shows what an absolute shambles David Sullivan has made of running this club. A stadium not fit for purpose and a train ground from the 19th century and a team that will be relegation bound next season. Mouthpieces like you just feed the powers that be and cause distress amongst the fans.
Time to use the academy!!
The point is that websites and social media like this hounded out the firefighter who had us playing in Europe.
You seem to have forgotten that.
The firefighter who would of taken us down but for luck…….and he was not sacked his contract was up and He had the chance to sign a new deal in December but said no then moaned he did not get a new deal at the end of the season…….he was average and Evertons results have started to level out after his initial arrival..so stop harping on about Moyes for Gods sake we will be talking Brexit next
