Bright Arrey-Mbi.
According to ExWHUEmployee Patreon, West Ham are having another look at the Braga defender:
The club seem to be exploring the talents of Bright Arrey-Mbi from Braga again, who is a German Under-21 defender. He counts as home-grown, having lived in England since he was 11 years old.
And do you know what?
This one is probably more likely than the alternative doing the rounds.
More Realistic Than The Disasi Dream
Don’t get me wrong, I’d happily take Axel Disasi back on loan tomorrow.
The Frenchman was excellent during the second half of last season and Chelsea would be doing us a favour.
But a 23-year-old on Braga’s books is a far more realistic proposition than persuading Stamford Bridge to gift-wrap their man a second time.
Arrey-Mbi is one of those players who wears the “you used to be the future” label.
Hailed as a wonderkid five years ago after spells in the Norwich and Chelsea academies then Bayern Munich, he was going to be the next big thing… and then wasn’t.
The Passport Is Doing Some Heavy Lifting
Born in Cameroon, he’s a walking multinational eligibility puzzle.
He turned out for England at Under-15 level before switching allegiance to Germany, where he has since won 15 caps for the Under-21s.
Crucially, he counts as home-grown.
That matters far more than it should to a squad short on the right paperwork.
The Usual Complications
Then again, it wouldn’t be a West Ham link without a catch or two.
There’s an eye-watering and unrealistic €50 million buyout clause, for a start.
And with Max Kilman clearly unfancied by Nuno “Baldie” Espírito Santo, a left-sided centre-back is very much on the transfer shopping list.
As for the agent?
Well… you’ve probably guessed already.
It’s our old friend Jorge Mendes, never far away from a single name we’re linked with these days.
We seem to be being linked to several ‘wonder kids’ who never quite achieved what was expected. Are the stats there that suggest that with proper coaching that they could achieve what was suggested in the past. Do we have a strong enough coaching team to work the transformation others seemed to have failed at?
I don’t think it was Killman that made the ‘baldie’ slur I think that was JWP
