Moyes finds West Ham survival blueprint

|

West Ham manager David Moyes reverted to type with his team selection ahead of the nail biting Premier league win against Fulham.

The Hammers boss was fully aware of the pressure on him before the trip to Craven Cottage, and even refereed to the game a ‘must win’ during his pre-match interviews. With that in mind it was interesting to see him ditch this seasons new ideas and new signings in favour of a very retro/Covid looking West Ham team.

It seemed to be a clear indication from Moyes over which players he trusts to save his job when the chips are down. Into the team came Angelo Ogbonna, Vladimir Coufal, Pablo Fornals, Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio. These are his trusted lieutenants and they repaid him with a ‘backs to the wall’ defensive performance.

Whether it will be enough to harvest two more wins from the remaining Premier League fixtures remains to be seen. But I wouldn’t mind betting that Moyes will continue with his old-school team for next Sunday’s game against Arsenal. We may well find that this is his survival blueprint.
