What an Irons feeling – it really takes you back

|

It really is one of the greatest feelings in the world isn’t it?

To wake up on a Sunday morning and find the first thought running through your head is: ‘Yes 4-2’ can’t be beaten.

And to realise that it was built to a large extent – not only on £35 million Felipe Anderson’s contribution  – but two academy products takes me back years.

That the academy is alive and well under the excellent Terry Westley brings back memories of Mooro, Boyce, Bovington, Lampard and all the rest -that’s fantastic.

The arrival of a class manager who is as calm as it gets – often under pressure from the often ridiculously critical phenomenon of social media – is the icing on what is becoming an increasingly good looking cake

Slowly – and most of knew it would take time – the team is producing the kind of football us fans have craved for over many years.

Yesterday it truly was back to the old days with an attitude of “You score two and we’ll get three” or four as it turned out.

The nerves were rattling – a very familiar feeling – but hopefully that’s not gonna be the case through the rest of the season. However it is very much West Ham.

What is even more exciting is that when kids arrive out of the academy they are usually passers of the ball rather than anything else.

That both Rice and Diangana have that in their lockers is great but both have several other attributes as well. They are ball carries who can seriously trouble defences and they are both so young.

These are exciting times – enjoy that feeling today!
