West Ham’s woes deepened with a dismal  performance against Crystal Palace, and a large part of the blame falls on centre-back Kurt Zouma. Manager David Moyes had no choice but to haul him off at halftime.

All four goals conceded by West Ham were deemed preventable, raising serious questions about the entire defence, particularly Zouma’s role. His misplaced pass directly led to Palace’s second goal, highlighting a lapse in concentration.

Zouma was unable to deal with Palace’s attackers effectively, allowing them far too much freedom in the West Ham penalty area. His failure to cut out crosses left the Hammers vulnerable.

While Angelo Ogbonna’s rare Premier League start might have contributed to some defensive disorganisation, it should have been Zouma who stepped up as the more confident player.

Statistics paint a grim picture of Zouma’s performance. He ended the first half with zero interceptions, clearances, or blocked shots according to WhoScored.com. This lack of defensive contribution left Moyes with no choice but to make a change at halftime.
